What is Worship?

(I thought I'd posted this a while ago. Oops.) One of the most abused and perverted words in church these days is WORSHIP. Preachers tell people they are worshiping in church every Sunday. Preachers are liars these days. They don't bother looking in the bible to see what worship is or what it involves.

I have looked in the bible. Here is what I found.

Two words are associated with Worship: FELL & BOW or BOWed. If you fall down, fall on your face, bow your head or bow your knee then you are worshiping. If you do NOT fall down, bow your head or bow your knee then you are NOT worshiping. PERIOD. I don't care what your lying preacher says. There are no bible verses saying worship and PRAISE are the same thing.

Praise and Prayer are not Worship. Worship is the act of humbling yourself by lowering yourself. If you have watched the movie Anna and the King then you know that nobody was allowed to stand before the king. Nobody's head was allowed to be higher than the king. It is an act of worship to lower or bow your head before a king. It is an act of worship to kneel or lay prostrate on the ground before a king. It is an act of worship to not stand before a king.

Below are the verses that tell us people FELL down when they worshipped. When was the last time YOU fell down and worshipped in church? Catholics get it. Then kneel down in church. They kneel in front of a statue of Mary and worship or venerate Mary. That is how you worship.

Job 1:20 Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and FELL down upon the ground, and worshipped...

Daniel 3:7 Therefore at that time, when all the people heard the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and all kinds of musick, all the people, the nations, and the languages, FELL down and worshipped the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.

Matthew 2:11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and FELL down, and worshipped him...

Matthew 18:26 The servant therefore FELL down, and worshipped him...

Acts 10:25 And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and FELL down at his feet, and worshipped him.

Revelation 5:14 And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders FELL down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever.

Revelation 19:4 And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts FELL down and worshipped God that sat on the throne, saying, Amen; Alleluia.

Revelation 22:8 And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I had heard and seen, I FELL down to worship before the feet of the angel which shewed me these things.

Below are the verses that tell us people BOWed when they worshipped. When was the last time you BOWed your head in WORSHIP?

Genesis 24:26 And the man BOWed down his head, and worshipped the Lord.

Genesis 24:48 And I BOWed down my head, and worshipped the Lord.

Exodus 4:31 ... they BOWed their heads and worshipped.

Exodus 12:27 ... And the people BOWed the head and worshipped.

Exodus 34:8 And Moses made haste, and BOWed his head toward the earth, and worshipped.

1 Chronicles 29:20 And all the congregation blessed the Lord God of their fathers, and BOWed down their heads, and worshipped the Lord, and the king.

2 Chronicles 7:3 ... they BOWed themselves with their faces to the ground upon the pavement, and worshipped, and praised the Lord...

2 Chronicles 20:18 And Jehoshaphat BOWed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem FELL before the Lord, worshipping the Lord.

2 Chronicles 29:29 And when they had made an end of offering, the king and all that were present with him BOWed themselves, and worshipped.

2 Chronicles 29:30 ... And they sang praises with gladness, and they BOWed their heads and worshipped.

Nehemiah 8:6 ... And all the people answered, Amen, Amen, with lifting up their hands: and they BOWed their heads, and worshipped the Lord with their faces to the ground.

The people in Nehemiah LIFTED UP their hands and said Amen, Amen, then they bowed their heads as an act of worship.

Below are the verses that tell us people BOW when they worship. Do YOU bow when you worship?

2 Kings 5:18 In this thing the Lord pardon thy servant, that when my master goeth into the house of Rimmon to worship there, and he leaneth on my hand, and I BOW myself in the house of Rimmon: when I BOW down myself in the house of Rimmon, the Lord pardon thy servant in this thing.

Psalm 22:29 All they that be fat upon earth shall eat and worship: all they that go down to the dust shall BOW before him: and none can keep alive his own soul.

Psalm 95:6 O come, let us worship and BOW down: let us kneel before the Lord our maker.

Raising your arms and singing is called PRAISE NOT worship. Standing and singing is called PRAISE NOT worship. Wednesday night services used to be called Prayer services or Prayer & Praise services. Over time preachers got to calling them Worship services.

You may say well, I bow my head and PRAY. Prayer is asking God for things. If you say "I pray thee" then you are ASKING for something. If you bow your head and pray then you are humbling yourself and asking God for things. Praise is saying words of affirmation or singing words of thanksgiving and praise.

Worship is neither prayer nor praise. You can NOT find a bible verse that suggests prayer IS worship. Praise is NOT worship, either.

The verses below talk about worship. They don't say fall or bow. They just say worship. They don't say sing or praise, either.

2 Kings 17:36 but the Lord, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt with great power and a stretched out arm, him shall ye fear, and him shall ye worship, and to him shall ye do sacrifice.

Psalm 5:7 But as for me, I will come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy: and in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple.

Psalm 96:9 O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness: fear before him, all the earth.

Revelation 14:7 ... saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.

When you use a different VERSION of the bible then this becomes WORSHIP the Lord with gladness: Psalm 100:2 Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing.

This says... Matthew 28:9 And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him.

Was his feet up by his arms or his head or did they have to fall down to hold his feet?

People will say stupid things like Worship is bowing down... in your heart.

That's stupid. Nothing above remotely tells us to bow down in our heart. Worship involves physically humbling ourselves by lowing our heads, kneeling or laying prostrate on the ground.

This is an example of somebody who confuses praise with worship.

In that article they say: "We can worship the Lord with all of our hearts through singing songs, serving Him, and living for Him, we can worship with our souls by prayer and praising Him, and we can worship with our minds in reading His word and pondering Him. Worship of God is vertical and then that relationship overflows into loving Him by loving others too."

Worship is NOT singing, serving nor living for him. You do NOT worship by prayer or by praising him. You can't worship with your mind by reading his word or even pondering him. Worship of God is NOT vertical... it's horizontal. It is a physical stance where you humble yourself before God.

The meaning of worship has really become perverted these days and people will read internet posts telling you worship is singing or praising or raising your arms and pastors won't even bother reading the bible to find out what worship is. They will just go along with the popular opinion. And, oh yeah... you will escape the upcoming tribulation because there is going to be a pre-tribulation rapture where Jesus rescues all of the believers before the 7 year tribulation starts.

Liars.
